Jim strives to provide his clients with the best possible results, leveraging his extensive experience in mediating and arbitrating disputes to reduce legal costs and provide meaningful outcomes. When alternative tactics fail to resolve a matter, Jim is a formidable presence in the courtroom, fighting for his clients’ rights. Recognizing that the legal arena is unfamiliar territory for many, Jim patiently ensures clients understand the legal process and offers dedicated, personalized solutions for each client’s unique needs.
Jim focuses his practice on complex family law matters, including high-asset divorces, child custody, and international parental abduction cases under the Hague Convention. He also serves as an expert witness in family law matters. His expertise has earned him a number of professional distinctions, including:
- Diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, an elite organization limited to the top 100 family lawyers in the country,
- Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, where he served as the Mountain States Chapter President from 2023-2024,

Beyond his legal practice, Jim demonstrates a strong commitment to the Utah community through pro bono work and serving on multiple committees, including the Utah Supreme Court Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure and the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the Utah State Bar. A respected voice in the field, he has authored several journal articles and lectured locally, nationally, and internationally, including trainings designed for judges and other judicial officers. When not advocating for his clients, he enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and two children.
